I think you could fit the reason his license was suspeneded into the title.

It's not like he had been to court and had it revoked. A ticket he might have never been informed of was unpaid, this triggers a suspension after enough time.

That he paid it as soon as he was caught is a good sign.

You don't just get a ticket and then get your license revoked if you don't pay. You get a reminder, you get the chance to go to court to contest and I'm pretty sure you get a registered letter before they finally revoke.

Unless you're not reading your mail, pretty hard to say you didn't know.

Long story short.

You don't just get a ticket and have your license revoked. I was home on leave when I got arrested sitting in my parents living room. Turns out that when I was at sea, my dad used my car to go to the Legion and have a few wets. Well he never plugged the meter which led to 300 dollars worth of parking violations that "I' hadn't paid and remember this was back in 69 when the tickets were like 10 bucks per. 8O

So, a few friends I had on the police force heard I was in town and dropped over for a visit. Hence I ended up in jail till my father paid the tickets.

But when i think about it I'm surprised I didn't get a littering fine on top of the parking violations for him tossing them on the ground outside the Legion.

He thought it was hilarious, me not so much. :D

So Bernier's excuse is bullshit. Lock the prick up. If I went to jail for tickets I didn't get he deserves the same.

I'm pretty sure that some people can fall through the system, more so if they move or change vehicle registration and the linking mailing address.

I know one guy that got his ticket, the ticket for not paying, and his revoked status in one bundle after the mail finally connected with him over a year and a half after the first ticket.

But as the system is more or less a money grab you can just pay all the fines and be on your way.

The thing about parking tickets, some people are immense pricks and remove the ticket from your car so you never even know it was there.

With friends like that..

Strangely enough a couple of months later the City decided to get rid of the Police Dept because they claimed it was corrupt. They hired the Mounties and one of the first people picked up for impaired driving was the Mayor. XD

His, "do you know who I am" line didn't work all that well on some kid who was straight out of Regina and he got to spend the night where I had languished for my stupidity in not getting the registration changed over for my car. :D
