This is just sickening.
$1: ...if this was a 16-year-old female from Barrie and a 42-year-old man coming from Texas, we'd be thinking in a different mindset, when really we shouldn't be. It's still an adult preying on the naivete of a youth."
No kidding. Why is it that a teenage boy can be preyed upon and no one bats an eye? Damn skippy people would be screaming if the genders were reversed. Who is going to fight for the well being of this boy?
I HATE double standards.

22 or even 32, most would be thinking'SCORED!!'
But 42 and 16 sounds a little too Oedipal.
It's a cultural thing mostly, where it has been considered a badge of distinction for a younger male to have a relationship with an older female. Throughout history older men married younger women in almost all cultures. By the time they were 15 or 16 most girls had their first child or two. Nowadays women are having childern in their late 30s and early 40s. Even a hundred years ago, that would likely have killed many women of that age.
I'm not saying it's right, but it has only been in the last 40 -50 years that the idea of childhood as a time of innocence has come into being. Prior to this children worked, fought(boys as soon as they hit puberty) and married(girls as soon as they hit puberty). Even nobles followed this line.

providing someone with food, clothing, shelter, and a computer to vegetate on is not "parenting" in my books.
I don't know the story behind this 16 year boy, but its obvious that he relates to a stranger online easier than he does to his own parents.

From what I gathered from the story, they took him to a counsellor and tried everything to get him away from her. 16 year old kids do not listen. I don't think his parents or even he are in the wrong here. I think it is this 42 year old married woman who is the danger to society.

I think a few of you adults don't want to face reality.
First. A young boy with an older women. More common then a cheap double cheese burger. As disgusting as you may think the circumstances ie, an online romance, changes the factors.
ASLplease: Every kid in history relates better to strangers then their parents. Its called growing up.

I am certainly not attracted to 16 year old boys, tho, Derb... Online affairs are very common, as are age difference between partners. But when you are 16, 26 years is a bit much. When you are 42, you shouldnt be attracted to a 16 year old. They are physically nor mentally at your level.

In fact throughout history its more common then well mice in the grain silos. Older people ARE attracted to young people because their young extends theirs.

Sure, if i'm 45yo and I separate from my wife/girlfriend, I won't look to get a woman my age. I will look for younger. But here we are talking about a 16yo boy. Switch the situation: 42yo man with a 16yo girl. The man would already be in custody and charged with pedophilia.

Tricks Tricks: He's getting high fives from his friends and you all know it. Noted for honesty and possible fact. As creepy as it may seem to some, it's possible this guy's peers, as long as she's hot, won't be looking at this as a predator issue, unless it's the cougar hunting kind.

Very interesting. Think back to Weird Science, Risky Business and other movies of their ilk. Twenty-five years ago, there was a degree of acceptability to this.
